Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program Continuation Report Released

On November 30, 2020 the AFN released a report titled The Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program Continuation Report.

This report coalesces important recommendations from 4 key documents; First Nations Mental Wellness Continuum Framework, First Peoples Wellness Circles Comprehensive Needs Assessment, AFN’s Healing Beyond 2021 Report, and National Centre for Truth and Reconciliations Survivors Perspective Report.

These recommendations focus on Culture as a Foundation, developing a Continuum of Essential Services, Collaboration with Partners, and Meaningful Investments. Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program was as a result of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement that offers health and cultural supports for survivors and their families. The funding for this program will become unprotected on April 1, 2021.

To raise awareness for the continuation of this important support program, we released this report to coincide with Orange Shirt Day and we would like for everyone to share through your networks as well. More information is available by visiting the AFN website, Twitter page and Facebook page. Links are below.

In response to the pandemic outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19) Gowling WLG is cancelling all Community Assistance Sessions until further notice to prevent the spread of the virus.

We recognize that many claimants are elders living in remote communities, and bringing everyone together creates the possible risk of exposure. Our team will continue to monitor the situation and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

All participants are encouraged to register for the online session tailored to their region. The links to any upcoming Community Assistance Sessions are below.
