Resolution Health Support Workers (R.H.S.W.) Services

What are Resolution Health Support Workers?

 

Purpose

 

  • To provide a variety of flexible “front-line” safety support and coordination services directly to Indian Residential Schools (I.R.S.) claimants involved in the Independent Assessment Process (I.A.P.) or court processes;

  • The R.H.S.W. service can be accessed at any stage of the I.A.P. or court process/ hearings (completion of an I.A.P. application form, hearing, court events, community events related to IRS, T.R.C. and Commemorative events, etc.)

Activities To Date

  • Respond to claimants in distress and refer them to the I.R.S. Help Desk, National I.R.S. Crisis Line or Health Canada IRS Regional Coordinator;

  • Attend I.R.S.R.C. outreach/information workshops, commemoration events, discovery hearings, negotiated settlement hearings and adjudication hearings;

  • Accompany lawyers and their paralegals (a trained person who assists a former student in filling out the I.A.P. application form) to I.A.P. application workshops and provide emotional support to claimants;

  • Respond to calls from I.R.S.R.C. Resolution Managers, Client Services staff, former student’s legal counsel, Adjudication Secretariat staff, Health Canada Regional Coordinator, etc.;

  • Prepare activity reports, participate in regular R.H.S.W. teleconference calls; network with Aboriginal groups, communities funded projects.

  • Initial awareness workshops to Universities, Elementary Schools, Youth Councils, Friendship Center, Corporations, and Tribal Councils

  • Networking and presentations on the Impacts & Effects of Indian Residential Schools

  • Respond to calls from the Department of Justice and Manitoba Law Society

  • Initial awareness workshops to Universities, Elementary Schools, Youth Councils, Friendship Centres, Corporations, and Tribal Councils

  • Networking and Indian Residential School Presentations

  • Responding to calls from the Department of Justice and the Manitoba Law Society

  • On behalf of Health Canada contracted the services of a professional consultant to provide organizational and team building services during the first National Truth and Reconciliation Event held in Winnipeg, MB.

  • On behalf of Health Canada contracted the services of a professional meeting facilitator to facilitate training and team building sessions for RHSWs and CSWs in preparation of the first National Truth and Reconciliation Event held in Winnipeg, MB.

  • Community Centered Therapy Programs – Red River College

Research Projects

  • Conduct an evaluation of Food Security initiatives in Manitoba First Nations communities and schools on behalf of Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative (A.D.I.)

  • Research Project with Dr. Suellen Murray – Researcher on “Adult Care Leavers” – University of Melbourne

  • Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs in conjunction with Service Canada

Training Coordination & Development

Anish Corporation has coordinated and managed a series of Early Childhood Education training courses for Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve projects since 2006 on behalf of the A.H.S.O.R. Program at First Nations Inuit Health Branch, Manitoba Region.

Anish Corporation developed a Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve Tool Kit for the use of A.H.S.O.R. Outreach Workers to use as a learning resource tool when working with children and families in an outreach setting.

Anish Corporation also developed and sourced A.H.S.O.R. promotional materials for First Nations Inuit Health Branch, Manitoba Region to be used for marketing and promotional purposes at the regional and community level.
